Backlift and Step

Basic Batting Drill 2 – Backlift and Step

The backlift is a very important part of the shot.

Backlift and step

                    • If you lift up the bat too late you may miss the ball.
                    • If you lift it too early you will hit the ball on the upstroke or follow through and may give a catch.
                    • Keep your head still as you lift the bat and step either back or forwards.
                    • Grip the bat firmly as you prepare to play the shot.
                    • You should lift the bat and step together.
                    • Try turning the bat slightly as you lift it so that the blade of the bat faces away from you – this can help you to bring the bat through straight as you play the ball and avoid edging the ball.
                    • Don’t over stretch or stride too far.
                    • Stay balanced and watch the ball.
                    • Transfer your weight to your front or back leg as appropriate to play the shot.
