Shot Selection

Leaving

Remember you don’t have to play a shot.  If the ball requires a risky shot and is wide or high of the stumps then you can make the decision to leave the ball and let it go through to the keeper.

There can be no more frustrating sight for a bowler at the end of his run up to see a batsman shoulder arms and let the ball pass through to the keeper.

However you must be very aware of your position in relation to the stumps and you need to decide early.

Always make a positive decision to leave ball and never change your mind halfway through the shot as this often leads to a nicked catch behind or ends up with an injury with you getting hit by the ball.
