Sweep Shot

Advanced Batting Drill 5 – The Sweep Shot

The sweep has become the favoured shot against spinners, especially by England’s batsmen.

It is a cross-batted shot played to a delivery on or around leg stump behind square on the leg side.

There’s an element of risk when you play the shot as it requires plenty of confidence to execute properly.

Try and follow the sequence and diagrams below which show you how to play the shot correctly.

Front pad in line, collapse the back leg

  • Lead towards the line of the ball with head and front shoulder.
  • Place the front pad into the line of the ball and then bend the front leg while collapsing the back leg.
